The Week of March 29

Greetings from Swedlanda!

“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain.” (John 12:24) Nancy’s freshly baked bread served as the sermon illustration on Sunday, and then was used for Holy Communion. The path of discipleship is narrow. Speaking of the spiritual path, Swedlanda is planning to offer a labyrinth during Holy Week. The labyrinth is a Prayer Path, offering a place of contemplation and spiritual commitment. Plan to spend an hour during the week, April 5-10 as a part of your Lenten journey.

During our Sunday service, the choir sang another “Cold Mountain” selection for the offertory-beautiful, as usual. We are looking forward to the Wednesday evening service, where we will continue our series on spiritual practices by exploring faith and testimony. Our Confirmation students will be sharing their faith experiences with the congregation. We have three in the class this year, Brady Z., Jordan A., and Zach P.

Plan on taking advantage of opportunities for spiritual growth during the remainder of the Lenten season, as we approach Easter. Here is the schedule: 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday, April 9; 7 p.m. Good Friday, April 10; 6:45 a.m. Easter Sunrise & 9:30 a.m. Holy Communion, April 12. The Easter Breakfast will be offered by the Luther League in-between services.

Palm Sunday Special Event--Bishop Jon Anderson of the Southwestern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA will be the guest speaker for this year’s Buffalo Lake-Hector Ministerial Association Palm Sunday Special Event, Sunday evening, April 5th at 3:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Hector. Bishop Anderson recently completed a trip to Israel and Palestine and will share reflections on the Holy Week texts along with photos and reflections on the current struggles in the Holy Land.

God’s blessings during the coming weeks,

Pastor Stewart
