The Week of November 9

“But at midnight there was a shout, “Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.” 7Then all those bridesmaids* got up and trimmed their lamps.” (Matthew 25:6-7)

Today the prophet Amos calls for justice to roll down like waters. Paul urges us to encourage one another with the promised coming of the Lord. Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish bridesmaids. Surrounded by the faithful of every time and place, we celebrate Christ’s coming in our midst in the word of life and the feast of victory—the marriage feast of the lamb.

Greetings from Swedlanda,

What a difference a week makes! There have been many changes since last Sunday—the results of national and local elections and the arrival of winter weather.

The recently re-elected mayor of Buffalo Lake was with us today; congratulations to Joyce Nyhus! May God bless all of our elected leaders and inspire all to acts of love and support for our neighbors.

We added some folks to our prayer list this week, including Werner A. and Eileen J., who both were hospitalized briefly and now are in nursing homes.

Todd and Lynn P. celebrated their 27th anniversary by decorating our chancel with flowers.

Please note the announcements below. Looking ahead to Thanksgiving, the Swedlanda Men In Mission will once again host a 7 p.m. Thanksgiving Eve program, with pie to follow. Families are asked to bring their contribution of pies. A service of Communion will be held on Thanksgiving Day at 9:30 a.m. Then the Sunday following there will be an Advent Service followed by an event including an auction, church decorating for Christmas and crafts. I hope you can be there.

God’s blessings on the week,

Pastor Stewart
