The Week of May 17

Greetings from Swedlanda!

Today was High School Senior Recognition Sunday at Swedlanda! Four students were recognized: Nick Anderson, Tyler Bruns, Kasey Peterson, and Philipp Tippow. The Grace Circle provided a wonderful brunch and the four honorees were presented with quilts from the congregation. After the brunch, the Swedlanda choir began the worship service by singing, “I Hear the Prophet Calling.” Later in the service, they sang “Awaken Me to Pray.” They were great, as usual. My youngest son, Christopher gave the message today. He’s a student at Gustavus Adolphus College with a double major in education and social studies. Needless to say, I was quite proud of him.

Overnight, the temperature dipped into the mid-30’s, so all of my outdoor plants came inside again! Hopefully, the weather will be more typical of this time of the year during the week. The fields have been planted and crops are beginning to appear. This coming weekend is Memorial Day weekend, so we will begin our summer schedule, with services at 9:30 a.m.

It won’t be long before our visitors from South Africa arrive: Dean Sikhathesihle (Scottie) Khumalo and Moses Mahlangu. They will arrive on May 27 and leave on June 18. There will be several opportunities to get to know them, beginning with a Partnership Welcome at Christ Lutheran, Glencoe on Saturday, May 30 at 9:20 a.m. In our area, a noon picnic at the Franklin Park is planned for Saturday, June 6. On Sunday, June 7, our partners will take part in a worship service at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Fairfax at 10:00 a.m. with coffee to follow. There will be no service scheduled that day at Swedlanda and all are encouraged to attend the service at Fairfax. The visitors will also be at the Synod Assembly, June 12-14 and a farewell banquet is planned on Tuesday, June 16 at Trinity Lutheran, St. Peter at 6 p.m.

Enjoy the spring weather! God’s blessings during the week.

Pastor Stewart
